Since its inception, the Focused Research Group in International Environmental Cooperation  has developed research programs related to international environmental cooperation. GECHS at UCI is part of the International Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change program, a major international research effort to study and assist people who are most vulnerable to the negative effects of global environmental change.

This initiative explores transboundary water policy through the development of individual and collaborative research that resulted in a mentorship program for graduate students, Reflections on Water, an edited volume from MIT Press, and proposals for further research.
